THE SURROUNDING AREA

There are tours where you can visit Montalbano's characteristic locations, such as vineyards, olive groves, castles, museums and churches, and discover the Fucecchio Padule Nature Reserve. A few dozen kilometres away is the Tyrrhenian coast and Versilia with beaches, pine forests and a seaside promenade with plenty of shops and restaurants between Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, which is known for its luxury and nightlife. Starting at the farmhouse, you can climb up towards the Pistoia Mountains or Svizzera Pesciatina, in search of ancient villages that are brought to life by village festivals, until you reach the peaks with their breathtaking landscapes.

ART CITIES

Agriturismo I Macchiaioli's location allows for easy access to the major Tuscan historical-artistic centres such as Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Siena, Pistoia and Arezzo, thanks to convenient motorway and rail links.
The smaller towns such as Vinci, Cerreto Guidi, Montecatini Terme, Collodi, Montecarlo di Lucca, San Gimignano and Volterra, to name but a few, are also very interesting to visit and are all a short distance away via roads with amazing views.

OUTLET AND SHOPPING CENTRES

A few kilometres away from Agriturismo I Macchiaioli are many supermarkets and large shopping centres, as well as the characteristic weekly town markets.
There are many shops in the centre of Montecatini Terme or within the ancient walls of the historic centre of Lucca, for example.
A few dozen kilometres away, but easily reachable from by motorway, are the outlet centres in Barberino del Mugello in one direction and 'The Mall' in the other.

ENTERTAINMENT

Famous all over the world, "Il Parco di Pinocchio" in Collodi, is just a few kilometres from Agriturismo I Macchiaioli, as well as the "Zoo di Pistoia", but there are also lots of local festivals and events with funfairs or bouncy castles for the children. From the adventure parks in the Pistoia Mountains to the electric indoor go-karts in Montecatini Terme, it is impossible to get bored. The area is rich in museums and theatres, and nearby the Leonardo da Vinci Museum and the Teatro Verdi in Montecatini Terme are really worth a visit.

SPORT

From the flat plains of the Padule di Fucecchio Nature Reserve, to the rolling hills, to the impervious slopes of Montalbano, the region is full of well-marked trails from the CAI (Italian Alpine Club). The paved roads of Montalbano up to S.Baronto, welcomed the World Cycling Championships in 2013 and have also seen various editions of the Giro d'Italia. Near Agriturismo I Macchiaioli there are lakes for recreational fishing, tennis courts, horse riding centres and the Montecatini Golf Club golf courses.

THERMAL BATHS & SPAS

The Terme di Montecatini are known throughout the world and have always attracted famous guests, thanks to their thermal waters. The waters are drunk or used in various treatments at the ancient establishments immersed in the park.
A few kilometres from Agriturismo I Macchiaioli is the renowned Grotta Giusti in Monsummano Terme. It has a natural cave for thermal steam baths, an outdoor pool with thermal waters, and offers of specific treatments, massages, etc.
